La Folle Berthe, 2023 Update
Careering around a large tasting of organic and biodynamic wines from Saumur a year or two ago, some of the most striking wines – both in terms of their labels, and the quality of the liquid within the bottle – were those from David Foubert, of Folle Berthe. One Chenin Blanc in particular, from a parcel within the Fontenelles vineyard which David acquired from Philippe Gourdon of La Tour Grise, was noteworthy.
I have met up with David a couple of times since that first encounter, allowing me to refresh my opinion of the domaine and its wines, resulting first in this profile, and also in this update from a small tasting with David last year. In this brief report I present another small handful of La Folle Berthe tasting notes from a more recent encounter. I check out the most recent vintage of Folles Bulles, his pure Pineau d’Aunis pét nat cuvée, as well as the latest releases in both red and white.
