Bordeaux 2011 Primeurs: Pomerol Tasting Notes

Which to choose from the wines described so far? For me, value for money always has to come into the equation, and in terms of bang for your buck there is no doubt that Vieux Château Certan wins hands down (and not for the first time either). If I were to let my heart rule my head, however, I think it would have to be the Lafleur. Everything here is understated; the modest Jacques Guinaudeau himself, his tiny 4-hectare vineyard with its varied terroir, and the wine itself which is restrained, balanced and so gloriously perfumed (I know I say the aromatics don’t matter so much en primeur, so forgive me this slip just this once, please!). If I were planning to flash my cash with my banker buddies, however, I know which option I would choose. Sometimes you just have to show off. I’m sure it is not too difficulty to figure out which wine fits the bill here.

Of course, real value comes lower down the ladder. I have already expounded on the virtues of Petit Village and La Pointe, but are there any other estates this year turning out a wine worthy of our attention, wines that offer both quality and affordability?
