Sébastien Bobinet: Vineyards

Sébastien Bobinet’s domaine is located very close to the Loire, just off the D947 which runs parallel to the course of the river here. The limestone plateau which runs up to the course of the river is the bedrock upon which there floats a sea of vines, and many domaines located here, along its edge, have troglodytic cellars which run deep into the limestone rock behind the scarp. Sébastien is no exception to this rule, his cellars dating to at least the early 17th century.

As indicated in my introduction the domaine grew from the initial 2 hectares first to 6 hectares, then quickly to 14 hectares. Today Sébastien and Eméline have 12 hectares of Cabernet Franc and 2 hectares of Chenin Blanc. Looking at the range of cuvées produced, Sébastien presumably also has access to Pineau d’Aunis and Côt. Underfoot the terroir is pure limestone, with small amounts of clay on top. The philosophy in the vineyard is organic, although not to my knowledge certified.
