Terre de l’Élu, 2024 Update

If you missed the news, then Terre de l’Élu is the domaine formerly known as Clos de l’Élu.

Just as when Prince changed his name to that unpronounceable symbol in 1993, which some believed was a ploy to escape his contract with Warner Bros Records, the Clos de l’Élu name change was also the result of external forces. Tired with local regulations which they believed had no positive impact on the style and quality of their wines, proprietors Thomas and Charlotte Carson left the Anjou appellation behind, and switched their entire portfolio to Vin de France. The problem with this was that the word clos could not be used outside the appellation.

So clos became terre, and Terre de l’Élu was born.

Under their new name, Thomas (pictured) and Charlotte surely have more freedom to experiment and innovate. Alongside old friends such as Magellan and Ephata, on this occasion I encountered several cuvées completely new to me, including Parfum d’Eden, Marco Polo and Entre Deux Mondes. I report on these wines, all tasted earlier this year with Thomas and Charlotte, below.
