Château de Targé: Tasting & Drinking

Here as elsewhere, the range of styles encapsulated in the portfolio is broad. Looking first to the red wines, the crème de la crème is the Quintessence, a wine which can be of striking confidence at times. It is remarkable to think it is made with such a restrained use of wood. It is by far my favourite wine made here, with all its substance and depth, but purists looking for a more traditional hit of bistro-style Saumur-Champigny will find something good in the entry-level cuvée, or the Cuvée Ferry.
