La Source du Ruault: Tasting & Drinking
The wines of La Source du Ruault are going to appeal to drinkers with a strong interest in sustainable viticulture with minimal intervention in the cellar. They range from entry-level wines free of any wood influence, to more upmarket cuvées aged in old oak barrels. There is a simplicity and charm to them, in terms of structure and fruit flavour, with the occasional backbone of robust tannin. The wines feel clean, another positive note, with bright and lively acidities keeping them fresh and defining the character of the fruit. Recent vintages in the Loire Valley have tended to reinforce this aspect of the region’s wines though.
It will be interesting to see how these wines evolve over a longer period of aging, and so I have added a couple of bottles to the cellar to see for myself. (12/10/16)
