Les Maisons Rouges: Tasting & Drinking

The vineyards situated along the banks of the Loir are easily overlooked, being some distance from the main Touraine appellations, most of which are gathered along the banks of the Loire and its southern tributaries, the Cher, Indre and Vienne. Despite this apparent isolation, the region is responsible for some of the finest and most intriguing wines of the entire Loire Valley.

Les Maisons Rouges is one more domaine which makes a visit to the Jasnières and the Coteaux du Loir appellations worthwhile. The 2019 vintage, tasted with Julien Peltier, showed well. The dry 2019 Sur le Nez cuvée was of very fine quality, while fans of sweet wines will savour the 2019 Inclinaison. Even the red wines, made from Pineau d’Aunis, have merit, and I have to confess I can be a harsh judge when it comes to this variety. But I think I would be quite content with a glass of the 2019 Alizari in my hand.

I look forward to the next opportunity to taste the wines of Julien Peltier. (24/8/22, updated 29/10/23)
