Domaine Le Briseau
The story of Domaine Le Briseau concerns two individuals, one being Nathalie Gaubicher, a Swiss actress-turned-sommelier, the other Christian Chaussard, a French technician-turned-vigneron. The two first found each other, and then found a little piece of France to call their own, near Marçon on the Loir. An early exponent of organic and biodynamic viticulture and non-interventional winemaking, and a one-time lecturer at a local wine school, Christian was an inspiration to many of the Loire Valley’s younger generation of vignerons, to some he was perhaps a father figure, significant and clearly much loved. His wines were also frequently of very good quality, so it seemed like he had a win-win situation.
Sadly in more recent years Christian fell ill, and tragically, in 2012, in an accident unrelated to his illness, he died, leaving many of the leading vignerons of Anjou and Touraine in a state of shock, and of course leaving Nathalie to run the domaine single-handed.
