Domaine de Ladoucette: Vineyards
The domaine is located just to the south of Saint-Andélain, one of the central communes of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. Indeed, it is barely a kilometre from Domaine Didier Dagueneau, on the southern outskirts of the village; the distance between the two can be walked within ten minutes. The château and vineyards lie very close to the A77, the autoroute which bisects the Pouilly-Fume vineyards, and which I have already mentioned in my profile of Michel Redde, a domaine which also lies only a very short distance away. Despite this the autoroute is not so obvious here, it being screened from view by pockets of woodland, remnants of the Bois de Nozet, which lie to the north-west, west and south of the château.
All told the Domaine de Ladoucette vineyards in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation come to 65 hectares, many of which surround the château. The soils in these parts are clay with Kimmeridgian limestone beneath, although I am sure with such an extensive vineyard the soil types will encompass the entire spectrum of possibilities, through clay with Portlandian limestone to gravel and ever lesser terroirs. In all honesty detailed information on the vineyard is not forthcoming, and so this description of it is to a large extent supposition based on my knowledge of the area where the château is located, my inspection of geological survey maps, and the soils described by other vignerons living nearby.
