Domaine Saurigny: Vineyards

Today Jérôme Saurigny has 6.5 hectares of vines, including Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc in white, and Gamay, Grolleau, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon in red. Some plots are of fair size, including a 2-hectare plot of mixed Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and a 1-hectare plot of Grolleau. From the outset Jérôme and Sophie they were aided in their work by José, who had been employed by the previous owner, and who has more than 30 years experience under his belt.

Previously the domaine had been managed along ‘traditional’ methods, meaning the use of chemical herbicides and pesticides in the vineyards. This was stopped immediately Jérôme took control, work in the vineyard shifting immediately towards more natural and sustainable methods. The work in the vineyards is carried out by hand, as you would expect. Official organic certification from ECOCERT was obtained in 2010.
