Domaine Le Briseau: Vineyards

When they settled near Marçon Christian and Nathalie started with just 4 hectares of vines. At first they utilised just these, and instead of expanding they set up in addition a small négociant business called Nana, Vins & Cie. They purchased fruit for this parallel venture before it had been harvested, and no doubt had a say in how the vines were tended and when the fruit was picked. Once harvested, the grapes were delivered to the Chaussard facilities, where it was handled in the same manner as the Chaussard fruit.

With time, however, the domaine did expand, and in recent years there have been as many as 8 hectares in production at Domaine Le Briseau. Christian’s aim was to get up to 10 or 11 hectares in a few years, with new plantings of both Chenin Blanc and Pineau d’Aunis coming on line. Whether of not Nathalie will progress with this expansion after Christian’s passing remains to be seen.
