Château Fonréaud: Tasting & Drinking
Over the years I have warmed to the wines of Château Fonréaud. Early encounters decades ago did little to seduce me to the wines of the estate, or indeed the appellation. Today, however, it is clear that there has been a tangible improvement in the quality of the wines, and recent years have seen some of the best vintages ever produced here. Is this as Loïc and Guillaume Chanfreau have taken charge? It could be, although their father Jean still hovers around the cellar, even now. “We try to stop him getting it”, joked Loïc when we spoke in late 2021. Or at least I think he was joking.
