Domaine des Sablonnettes: Tasting & Drinking

Joël Menard deserves admiration for following his heart (even if he came to this life really because he could find no other) and making wine while adhering to a non-interventionist approach developed in two very easy vintages. In subsequent years he did not have such an easy time of it, but Joël has remained true to his word and his original intention regardless. This, of course, can also be said of all those other dedicated souls who can be found tending their vines along the banks of the Layon, fashioning some of the Loire Valley’s most striking wines as a result. Names that jump to mind include Richard Leroy, Mark Angeli and the Pithon and Paillé families at Pithon-Paillé, none of whom live very far from Joël and Christine Menard’s residence.
