Domaine des Ouches: Tasting & Drinking
The wines of Domaine des Ouches certainly capture the elegant and floral side of Cabernet Franc, this being the main focus of the Vin 20 domaine cuvées, and I would say Igoranda, the domaine cuvée originating from a number of terroirs featuring gravel, but from older vines, equally tends to lean towards this style. The cuvées from the other lieux-dits, however, tend to reflect their origins, largely clay (variously mixed with flinty gravel or sand) and of course limestone. These wines combine a floral purity with a wealth of dark fruit, which is inserted into a lean texture in the middle of the palate, surrounded by a firm frame of tannin. Indeed, I would say this is the Gambier house style, wines of floral dark fruit with stern, tannin-infused backbones and not a lot of cushioning texture.
