Mai et Kenji Hodgson: Vineyards
Mai and Kenji Hodgson live in Rablay-sur-Layon, although the chai is located to the east, in the commune of Champ-sur-Layon, and many of their vineyards are to the north somewhat, on the opposite bank of the Layon, in Faye d’Anjou. The domaine has grown in size since their beginning in 2010, the initial 1-hectare parcel having been augmented by a further 2 hectares acquired for the 2011 vintage, and a further 1 hectare snapped up in 2012, so that they now have about 4 hectares at their disposal.
The varieties planted are Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, with 2 hectares of each. The Cabernet Franc is located in Le Breil, while the parcels of Chenin Blanc are in Le Mont, and there is also some planted in Montbenault although these only came on line with the 2013 vintage. It seems there is also a little Grolleau and Gamay planted, although presumably only tiny amounts of these two varieties.
