Lamé Delisle Boucard: The 1947 Vintage

The first commercial release of wine from Lucien Lamé’s vineyards, the forerunners of the modern Lamé Delisle Boucard domaine, was in 1947. Prior to this any wine he had produced had been sold to local négociants, but now Lucien bottled everything himself, with the intention of selling it direct to his clients. The only fly in the ointment was that, with 10,000 bottles now resting in the family cellars, Lucien did not have any clients.

Fortunately for Lucien and his wife Yvonne this did not turn out to be a significant stumbling block; perhaps the fact that they started out with the magnificent 1947 vintage, followed by two more excellent vintages in 1948 and 1949, helped in this matter. The venture was a success, and they named their domaine Lamé-Delisle, combining their two family names. The wines picked up a few medals here and there, and the domaine’s reputation grew. And thanks to Lucien’s good commercial sense the domaine also grew in size, and in terms of the volume of wine produced.
