Catherine et Michel Langlois: Vineyards
The domaine is located right in the middle of the village of Pougny, which lies on the main road heading eastwards out of Cosne-sur-Loire. Catherine and Michel have 17 hectares of vines, which Michel says are 50% white and 50% red. The vines are largely young, having been established in the few years after Michel turned the domaine over purely to viticulture, and they are planted at a density of 6,800 vines per hectare. The terroir underfoot, as you might have guessed from my introduction, is limestone, in particular Kimmeridgian.
The approach is probably best described as viticulture raisonnée, with no organic certification although Catherine Langlois professes to avoid chemical herbicides, insecticides and fungicides, and uses only organic fertilisers.
