Yannick Amirault: Vineyards
The domaine is located very close to the town of Bourgueil, just to the north, on the far side of the D35 which runs west-east here, through the lower vineyards. Yannick and Benoît Amirault have approximately 20 hectares of vines, planted on varying terroirs, two-thirds of which are in Bourgueil and one-third in St Nicolas de Bourgueil.
The vineyard is divided between close to thirty separate parcels which are planted exclusively to Cabernet Franc save for one or two exceptions, including some recent developments with Chenin Blanc (which isn’t eligible for either the Bourgueil or St Nicolas de Bourgueil appellations, but that doesn’t seem to have dissuaded Benoît from planting it). The view pictured above is looking down the slope from Le Grand Clos, while the pickers pictured below are working their way through the vines in the lower section of Les Malgagnes.
