Domaine La Tour Beaumont: Tasting & Drinking

Haut-Poitou is an isolated region of the Loire Valley, being located some way south of the main body of appellations that run alongside the river. This fact has no doubt contributed to the region having been overlooked by so many, and as with other more distant appellations has perhaps contributed to its decline.

The region is generally considered part of Touraine, although its focus in white wines is Sauvignon Blanc rather than Chenin Blanc. Thus we should not think of it as a long-lost alternative to Vouvray or Montlouis, but is more akin to the generic Touraine appellations, which also showcase Sauvignon Blanc ahead of other white varieties.
