Domaine Jean Teiller: Vineyards
Domaine Jean Teiller is located in the commune of Menetou-Salon, on the outskirts of the town itself, the heart of the Menetou-Salon appellation. From here Olivier and Patricia Luneau tend 18 hectares of vineyards, scattered across the region. Some are very close by, in this same commune, with other located in Parassy, Aubinges and Vignoux-sous-les-Aix.
Of these 18 hectares, 11 hectares are dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc, and 7 hectares to Pinot Noir. Underfoot the soils are a combination of clay and limestone, typical for the appellation, with Kimmeridgian limestone dominating. As described in my profile, the domaine is run along organic and biodynamic lines, with certification of the former by Ecocert and the latter by Biodyvin. The soils are worked using plough and hoe rather than relying on pesticides, and fungal diseases are warded off using sprays of copper sulphate and wettable sulphur, typical organic treatments. In addition Olivier (pictured) and Patricia utilise commonplace biodynamic treatments including plant infusions of horsetail, chamomile and dandelion.
