Château Thieuley: Tasting & Drinking

Having returned to Château Thieuley I feel I have – after many years – redeemed myself, having finally written my profile of this domaine. It is certainly an estate worth knowing about, because as is the case with a number of names in the Entre-Deux-Mers while the reds may not be the most exciting (although they are certainly very drinkable here), the white wines have a delicious texture and verve to them. This is true of the domaine cuvée, but it seems especially applicable to the Cuvée Francis Courselle.

Under Marie and Sylvie’s direction the future of the domaine feels assured. On my second visit I met Francis briefly, but spent most of my time with Marie, who took an hour or two out from tending to her vats of embryonic wines from the 2015 vintage to show me around. On a Sunday afternoon, no less. This is a dedicated family who make wines which seem to reflect their charming characters. I will, I am sure, be pulling the corks on a few more before long.
