Château Le Puy: Tasting & Drinking

I am aware that the wines of Château Le Puy are held in high regard in some quarters, although my experiences with them have not been so dramatic as some other tasters describe. The Emilien cuvée shows even in relative youth – such as the 2009, tasted at four and five years of age – an advanced, old-school character. This comes through even in great vintages such as this, when I would expect the wines at this stage to be dense and brimming with primary fruit. The 2010 and 2008 vintages have both fared a little better although the 2007, perhaps reflecting the vintage, was less appealing.
