Château Joanin Bécot: Vineyards

The cellars are located just at the southern end of the hamlet of Joanin, a short walk from Château d’Aiguilhe which lies just to the south. Although this is a very broad landscape of vines, there are few grand châteaux here. This, like some parts of Pomerol, is an appellation of practicality, dominated by farmhouses and diminutive cellars.

The Bécot family have gathered together 12.43 hectares of vines here in Joanin, on desirable soils of clay and limestone. The vines planted are in the typical ratio, with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. The original plantings were at a rather modest 5,200 vines per hectare, although unsurprisingly newer plantings are planted at a slightly higher density, closer to 6,250 vines per hectare.

The work in the vineyard is conventional, with no recourse to organic or biodynamic methods.
