Château Les Charmes-Godard: Tasting & Drinking

The wines of Château Les Charmes-Godard offer excellent value for money, particularly the white wines, although this opinion may simply reflect a lack of exposure to the corresponding red. As I discovered with the 2012 vintage in white, back in 2018, leave the wine for a few years in bottle – just five or six in this case – and the quality and joy found hiding behind the cork can surpass expectations.

In recent vintages I have particularly enjoyed the 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages, speaking specifically of the white grand vin. The 2018 was no slouch either. Of note, as a consequence of the devastating frost in 2017, no wine was made that year. These are wines to buy with confidence. Your only difficulty may well be keeping your hands off long enough to allow a little a maturity to shine through, although that is what I advise; it is always a good move, but especially so with Semillon-dominant Bordeaux whites.
