Port House Profiles: Introduction

Port: Vineyards on the DouroIt's unusual for me to let the festive time of year pass by without a bottle of Port open (well actually it's unusual for me to let any time of the year pass by without one open). This year I've been doing a little research and have put together a series of Port House Profiles, together with appropriate tastings. Many of the wines I have tasted are on current release and some will make excellent selections for Christmas drinking.

Other styles of Port that I have recently sampled, such as aged Vintage Port, very aged Tawny Port or single Colheita Port will be progressively more difficult to find. Nevertheless, I include these notes here also, as they demonstrate the heights of pleasure that can be derived from such wines and, although not available on the high street, such wines may often be sourced through independent wine merchants.
