Chateau Mansenoble

Chateau Mansenoble is situated in the northwest of the Corbières appellation. The estate is run by Guido Jansegers, with his wife Marie-Annick. Together they extol a vineyard of 20 hectares, of which 6.5 hectares is AC Corbières and 13.5 hectares is entitled to Vin de Pays des Coteaux de Miramont. The AC land is planted up with Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre, whilst Cabernet and Merlot go to the vin de pays.

The premium cuvée here is the Réserve du Chateau Mansenoble, a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Carignan. The standard Corbières cuvee is Carignan, Syrah and Grenache, and there is also a rosé made from the same varieties. There are two vin de pays produced, a Cabernet Merlot blend and a Carignan Merlot blend. (26/7/04)

1998

Réserve du Chateau Mansenoble Corbières 1998: A good depth of colour here, with a red-black core and a maturing rim. Brawny, brambly black fruits on the nose with a meaty character at first, with a subtle smoky oak background. With air it takes on a more refined, mature fruit aroma with a surprisingly claretty persona. A big, sweetly textured presence on the palate, with plenty of dark fruits and somewhat rustic, peppery oak-derived tannins intermingled with firm acidity. Would benefit from time in a decanter. Needs three or four years in the cellar to show its best. 17+/20 (July 2004) Label
