Wunsch & Mann Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Hengst 1996: A fairly pale yellow wine. The nose is classic Gewurztraminer, however, with aromas of gently fried bacon mingled with candlewax and honeyed fruit. Quite a rich texture on the palate, with a fair degree of residual sugar. There are some pleasant and typical Gewurztraminer flavours, pears, pineapple with a smoky bacon and honey edge. They are not abundant however, and the palate does seem a little characterless for a Grand Cru wine. Nevertheless there is a clean finish with a considerable length. 15.5/20 (29/10/01)
