Speri Recioto della Valpolicella Classico La Roggia 1995: A dark, opaque red-black wine. Great depth on the nose, which has masses of port-like, roasted blackberry and blueberry fruits, with hickory and toast. The alcohol has a presence on the nose, so it is a surprise that the label declares it to be only 13%. Rich and mouthfilling, with wonderful texture, and plenty of spicy berry fruits. Its richness is kept in check by some healthy acidity. A low level of ripe tannins. Delicious, drinking now. 17/20 (24/3/03)
