Gérard Thomas Saint-Aubin 1er Cru 1997:
A fairly pale wine. A delightful nose, bearing in mind
the outlay on this wine, of smoky, oily, oatmealy oak,
together with some fresh honeydew melon aromas. The
palate has an elegant balance, the medium body mixing
with a fresh. lemony acidity, with a touch of grapefruit,
and a rich yet not luscious texture. Lovely lemon and
melon fuit, and sensibly applied oak, which sits in
harmony with the palate, rather than overpowering it.
Finishes very cleanly, with the oak showing through a
little. A lovely example of affordable Burgundy.
Very good.
