Poderi Luigi Einaudi

This producer, located in Dogliani, has a reputation for producing high-quality Dolcetto di Dogliani. They also, however, produce good examples of Barolo. The former wines include an unoaked, fruity version Dolcetto di Dogliani Vigna Tecc and a barrique influenced Dolcetto di Dogliani I Fratelli. Recent vineyard purchases mean that the range of Barolo on offer has expanded. The feather in the cap is the Barolo nei Cannubi, made from a plot in the Cannubi vineyard which was purchased from Fratelli Gancia. (16/9/03)

Luigi Einaudi Barolo nei Cannubi 1996: A colour which suggests some maturity although this is quite normal for Nebbiolo. A haunting nose, offering up aromas of tar, leather, rose-petals and sweet-smoked fruits. The palate is still gripped by fairly fierce acidity and some decent tannins, but there is plenty of body to see these out. Good sweet, perfumed fruit and a lovely length. Will be lovely in five years. Very good, potential for improvement. Label
