Reading Wine Labels: Northern Rhône
On this label the appellation is most prominent, Condrieu being a small appellation for white wines made from the Viognier grape in the Northern Rhône. The producer's name is André Perret, and the label tells us he is based in Chavanay (Propietaire-Viticulteur à Chavanay 42410 - France), a small village near the centre of the Condrieu appellation. Perret makes several different cuvées of Condrieu. This one is his top wine, made from old vines in the Coteau du Chéry vineyard. The vintage, 1993, is clearly declared. Like all top domaines, the wines are bottled at the property (Mis en bouteille à la propriété).
