Reading Wine Labels: Burgundy (Côtes de Beaune)

Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles label image

The producer here is Louis Jadot, as declared by the statement mis en bouteilles par Louis Jadot. The label  tells us not only of when the business was founded (Fondée en 1859), but also of the firms status as a négociant, and where they are located (Négociant-Éleveur à Beaune - Côte d'Or - France). The wine itself comes from Jadot's own plot in the Chevalier-Montrachet vineyard, which they call Les Demoiselles. It is a Grand Cru wine, as declared by type somewhat smaller than the appellation. Jadot owns a number of domaines, the names of which may appear on the label - here the wine comes from Domaine des Héritiers. No vintage is visible - this will be printed on a neck label.
