Fattoria di Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 1990 label image

The producer of this wine is Fattoria di Felsina, although this is written in very small type and is not at all obvious. This is one of Tuscany's top wine producers, situated in Castelnuovo Berardenga. The vintage, 1990, is clearly declared. This was an excellent vintage across much of Europe. It is a single-vineyard wine, from the Rancia vineyard, in the Chianti Classico region. It is designated a Riserva, which in Chianti means it was not released until at least three years old. Beneath this the expression Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita tells us that the wine comes from a legally defined wine producing region, similar (although much less successful) to the French appellation contrôlée system. In much smaller type comes the phrase Imbottigliato all'origine del viticoltore, telling us that this is a wine bottled by the producer.
