Reading Wine Labels: Loire Valley

Huet Vouvray Le Mont label image

This wine comes from one of the Loire's top producers, Huet, although this information is hidden in very small print at the foot of the label. Since the death of Gaston Huet, day-to-day operations are now under the full control of his son-in-law Noël Pinguet. The appellation is Vouvray, a wine region of the Loire Valley which confusingly produces dry, medium and sweet table wines, as well as sparkling wines. There is little information on the label as to how sweet this wine is; a pity, as Le Mont, one of the domaine's top three vineyards, can yield any style of wine, dry through to sweet. The label tells us the wine is bottled at the property (mis en bouteille à la propriété).
